The Nine Levels of Mastery

"There are nine mental levels into which players are distinguished. The first is called 'being in the spirit', the second 'seated in enlightenment', the third 'concreteness', the fourth 'understanding changes', the fifth 'applying wisdom', the sixth 'ability', the seventh 'strength', the eighth 'being quite inept', and the ninth and last 'being truly stupid'."
The Classic of Weiqi in Thirteen Chapters

Level 1 - Jing (Essence) - Junior Instructor
is able to show basic principles of stance, posture and pushing hands.

Level 2 - Ming (Understanding) - Assistant Instructor
is able, with guidance, to run a class; seven star step, single hand pushing hands, free pushing hands; basic short form, a few applications.

Level 3 - Zhi (Knowledge) - Basic Level Instructor
Knows the basic short form: square and round, basic pushing hands (nine palace, four direction and Fu Yang) and short form applications.

Level 4 - Hui (Vitality) - Intermediate Instructor
Knows reeling silk, the long form and one weapon form and applications and has undergone Bai Shi.

Level 5 - Qian (Humility) - Senior Instructor
Knows the mirror hand forms, advanced short form, da lu, two weapon forms, two person weapon set (sabre + staff) and the 12 Yin Nei Kung exercises.

Level 6 - Zu (Void) - Advanced Instructor
Knows the three weapon forms, the 12 Yang Nei Kung exercises and Immortal Family Ba Duan Jin.

Level 7 - Ren (Fortitute) - Master Instructor
Knows the 24 Yin and Yang Nei Kung exercises, all 3 weapon forms, Immortal Family Ba Duan Jin, applications for all hand form techniques, Zhou Lu pushing hands.

Level 8 - Rang (Oral) - Chief Instructor
is able to give Bai Shi and show applications for weapon form techniques, Cai Lang, the Six Secret Words and can also organize, write and research.

Level 9 - Yu (The Fool) - Principal Instructor
"The false pig eats tiger".
