Dan Docherty
Dan Docherty trained in Tai Chi Chuan under Cheng Tin-hung since 1975 , visiting him annually until his death in 2005. He is one of the few modern practioners to use his Taichi Fighting skills in Full-contact Fighting, culminating in winning the Open Weight Division at the 5th South East Asian Chinese Pugilistic Championships in Malaysia in 1980. Following in the tradition of scholar pugilists Dan was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Chinese from Ealing College, London in 1985 which has enabled him to research into the roots of Taijiquan. Always controversial he has shaken the Tai Chi world by its boots and reminded the world why Taijiquan was so highly regarded as a martial art. Dan founded the Practical Tai Chi Chuan International organisation to promote the complete art of Tai Chi Chuan in the West , which has been lost to may practitioners due to the absence of instructors who were able or willing to teach to the complete art.
